RECENT VOICE ACTOR AND VOICE OVER INDUSTRY NEWS |
The announcement made last November that Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake had been cast to voice the classic characters of Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo, respectively, in a new live-action/3D film, has stirred up some controversy.
In a recent installment of USA Today, Aykroyd talks about his want to be involved in the project:
"When I heard they were doing this project, I called my agent and said I would love to be a part of this, because it's a part of me, all those voices."
The article also mentions that "[b]oth came aboard because of their ability to mimic the original sound of the Hanna-Barbera characters: Yogi's affable bluster and Boo Boo's nasal pinch."
Interesting, given that Akyroyd's Yogi sounds more like a Rodney Dangerfield impression rather than a tribute to the late Daws Butler, who originated the role.
The film's director, Eric Brevig, talks about Timberlake imitating cartoon characters when he was younger:
"He said when he was learning to sing, doing vocal exercises or singing lessons, part of what he did was imitate these characters. So he came in with a prepared Boo Boo voice that he'd been doing all his life, too."
Yogi Bear is scheduled to be released in theaters December 17th. Watch the most recent trailer for the film here. |
